This particular collection evokes the most significant event of the 20th  century. The Second

World War began, following the attack on Poland on 1st  September 1939. The war in Asia had

already been raging at that time since 7th  July 1937. After 6 long years of war, the weapons

throughout Europe became silent on 8th  May 1945. In Asia, the fighting lasted until the

surrender of Japan on 2nd  September 1945. This collection consists of 20 specially selected

coins that were issued during the years of World War II. It includes coins from Hungary,

Croatia, Italy, Germany, Japan, Bohemia & Moravia, Serbia, Vichy, France, Manchukuo and

Slovakia. This exceptional collection is complemented by coins from Great Britain, France, the

USSR, Belgium and French-Indochina, Tunisia, British-India, Dutch-India, the Netherlands and

the United States of America. Due to the prevailing shortage of materials, metals such as zinc

and aluminium were used for the preparation of the respective currencies – even ´Red Fibre´

in the case of Manchukuo.
