The famous little horse was pictured for the first time on the plane of Baron Francesco Baracca, an Italian flying ace in the First World War. The victorious air combats quickly made the aristocratic pilot a national hero. The “Cavallino Rampante“ was then painted on all the squadron’s aeroplanes. Enzo Ferrari was also a member of this unit. When Enzo won the Ravenna motor race in 1923, Baraccas mother encouraged him to use the reared up little horse as a logo. The Ferrari founder further developed the symbol for courage and daring with a yellow background. In the top section he added the Italian national colours green, white and red and completed the emblem at the bottom with the letters SF (Scuderia Ferrari). Today this crest rightfully finds its place on all Ferrari cars. The mere sight of it, makes every Ferrari fan’s heart beat faster.
