Gene Roddenberry’s Star Trek: The Next Generation debuted in 1987, and ran for seven seasons until 1994. Set in the Milky Way Galaxy, the first season takes place in 2364, featuring a new crew and a new starship, U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-D.
The U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-D was a 24th century Federation Galaxy-class starship operated by Starfleet, and the fifth Federation ship to bear the name Enterprise.
The U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-D was twice the length and had eight times the interior space of the previous Constitution-class ships featured in Star Trek: The Original Series.
