With the expedition to the Canary Islands in 1336, the Kingdom of Portugal ushered in the Golden Age of Discovery. Sailors, such as João Gonçalves Zarco and João Rodrigues Cabrilho, sailed to places where no European had been before and changed world history. This folder includes two commemorative series of four coins each, which can be assigned to the matching descriptions and inserted into the provided recesses. The 100 Escudos series focuses on the voyages to the Canary Islands, Madeira, Porto Santo and the Azores, and the astronomical navigation in the Atlantic. The 200 Escudos series pays tribute to the exploration of America and the discovery by Christopher Columbus. Before his travels, the famous Italian lived in Portugal.
