This outstanding silver coin from the beginning of the early modern period commemorates the famous Emperor Charles V (* 24th February 1500, + 21st September 1558) from the ruling dynasty of the Hapsburg family. He was known as the ruler who reigned over an empire on which the sun never sets, as he was both emperor of the Holy Roman Empire and regent of Spain and the colonies in the New World, in personal union. The 1 Real silver coin was minted from 1542 in Mexico City, and is therefore one of the first coins that was ever produced in the New World.
