The Battle of Waterloo started on Sunday 18th June, 1815, at 11am. It was 2 hours later than intended to allow for the damp ground to dry out from the previous night's bad weather.

The battle took place near Waterloo in present-day Belgium, which was then part of the United Kingdom of the Netherlands.

The Prussian and Anglo armies worked as an allied force and were led by General Blücher and the Duke of Wellington respectively. The French troops were led by Napoleon.

After hours of fighting (most of it was fought in close combat) and 41,000 casualties, Napoleon was defeated and the battle brought over 20 years of conflict to an end.
